It's all gonna burn

[2 Peter 3:1 NKJV] Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in [both of] which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder),
[2 Peter 3:2 NKJV] that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior,
[2 Peter 3:3 NKJV] knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,
[2 Peter 3:4 NKJV] and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as [they were] from the beginning of creation."

We are living in the last days. People are not interested in hearing about Jesus.

[2 Peter 3:5 NKJV] For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water,
[2 Peter 3:6 NKJV] by which the world [that] then existed perished, being flooded with water.
[2 Peter 3:7 NKJV] But the heavens and the earth [which] are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

This planet we are sitting on? It is reserved for fire, until the day of judgement and perdition of ungodly men. We are sitting on a ticking time bomb, all of this is going to burn.

[2 Peter 3:8 NKJV] But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day [is] as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
[2 Peter 3:9 NKJV] The Lord is not slack concerning [His] promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Jesus is coming soon. You might have heard that 30, 40, 50 years ago, but it still rings true. Jesus is coming soon!

[2 Peter 3:10 NKJV] But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

The day of the Lord as a thief in the night. Which is to say, you won't know which night. Could be tonight. Next week. Next year, or tomorrow night.

That part there about "the elements"? We're talking atomic elements. The greek word used is "stoicheƮon" (pronounced roughly as "stoi-hi-on" with a clearing of the throat on the "h"), and this word in modern form is used to describe chemical elements in the Periodic Table Imagine if all the atoms just flew apart all at once. The whole universe coming unglued at once. The Bigger Bang.

[Revelation 21:1 KJV] And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
You might have wondered how all of this can be in a day. But we read just a moment ago back in 2 Peter 3:8 that a day with the LORD is as a thousand years. Perhaps another translation of it could be "the age of the LORD".

[2 Peter 3:11 NKJV] Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner [of persons] ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
[2 Peter 3:12 NKJV] looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?

That's a pretty good question, isn't it? What manner of person ought you to be? Live with your bags packed. Live in holy conduct and godliness. Look at Matthew 24. Look at Revelation 21. You can find out about the signs that we are at the end, and Jesus' return is imminent. You can find out more about this "new heaven and new earth." It isn't a mystery, it's been printed out in the Bible for your benefit!

[2 Peter 3:13 NKJV] Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

The "We" is whoever chooses to believe in Jesus. And may I encourage you, don't just believe in Jesus, follow Jesus. Be the "We". Be the "according to His promise". Look for a new heaven and a new earth, because this one is going to burn.

[2 Peter 3:14 NKJV] Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;

Be diligent. It doesn't happen by accident, and it won't happen on its own. You have to choose to live in a godly manner. Choose to follow Jesus. Choose to follow Jesus daily. Choose to follow Jesus right now. Say to yourself "Jesus, I am choosing to follow You", and do it.

[2 Peter 3:15 NKJV] and consider [that] the longsuffering of our Lord [is] salvation--as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,
[2 Peter 3:16 NKJV] as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable [people] twist to their own destruction, as [they do] also the rest of the Scriptures.

Some things in the Bible are not easy to understand, and there are cults and false religions out there that will try to make the Bible say things it does not say. You be on guard, okay? Okay! How will you know the truth? I would suggest you take the time to read it for yourself. Pick up a Bible and read. Ask God to reveal the truth to you. If you come across something you don't understand, ask God to show you the meaning.

[2 Peter 3:17 NKJV] You therefore, beloved, since you know [this] beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;
[2 Peter 3:18 NKJV] but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him [be] the glory both now and forever. Amen.

It is up to you. You know beforehand. How do you know? Well, you have just been informed, so indeed, you now know beforehand. Do not be led away by the error of the wicked. Choose to live as if Jesus could return in the next minute.

Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
